Have you ever felt undervalued, over worked, stressed, put up with meaningless drivel and thought on many occasions ‘what on earth am I still doing here?’ or (what I like to call) the 3am Career and Life Crisis (you know, when you wake up in a sweat thinking ‘is this it, is this it for my life') I get you, I really do.
Great question! For the past 10 years I’ve worked face to face with people as a professional careers counsellor and employability trainer. (Employ-a-what? It’s one of those ‘careers’ words which means…the skills needed for obtaining and sustaining work.)
And for the past 16 years as a personal development trainer; helping people break through 'psychological fears and barriers' so that they are living life with purpose, passion and pleasure.
And can I share this with you…
Changing career is a lot different (and heck, way more rewarding) to finding any job and
Owning and ‘working’ a career you love while getting paid for it…is more rewarding than just changing career.
Discovering and finding your passions and strengths; that’s the easy part (seriously, it is.) Finding someone to PAY you for USING them, that’s where many people get stuck and all perplexed.
If you’re in one, two (three, four, eight, arrgghh ‘I wish I could decide’ minds!) and are not ready to get really wet, twice a year I hold my ‘What’s Next Retreat’. Especially for you, if you are just wanting to explore what’s going to happen next in your career (or try out my resources page first, take something away today, don't leave empty handed.)
(Smiling) Such a good question! When I use the term ‘follow your passion’ I’m talking to you if you have passed the point of no return in your current career!
You and I are different. And for you, your career may not be exactly be along the lines of ‘following your passion’, it may be more along the lines of ‘how the hell can I get my foot in that door over there?’.
This may be the perfect time for you to look at my mentoring programmes or ‘What’s Next Retreat’, if anything I will support you to create a red-hot plan of action.
Following Your Passion could be perceived as wishy washy, to me it’s about YOU…laid bare, getting paid for what you WANT, really, really WANT (I’m sure that’s a song:)
The honest (and only) answer to that is I don’t know! I might, I might not. Yet, I do have a great talent in researching and finding out all I need to know and very quickly (I had to learn this is an employability worker) I become a bit like a pit bull.
I can guarantee you this…I have the experience and knowledge to get up to speed, very fast. I have worked with over a 1000 career changers and all were as unique as you.
Yes, depending on my own time commitments through mentoring programmes. I only work with a handful of people at time, more accurately would be three people a month.
This is an extremely intensive option I would recommend you test drive me first. You could do this by having a look at the resources available.
You see, in my 16 years experience when an individual is changing career from a place of desperation (because they hate what they are doing) they are in a ‘state of panic’, you may recognise this - you would buy into anything or anyone that seems to have the solution to your problem. I might, yet please test drive me first even read my 'How I Work With You' page.
That’s okay. Maybe this is your first time here. I’d suggest starting with the resources page, which has a career toolkit, videos and reports to boost your confidence (in case your last work place destroyed it) and an load of information that previous clients have found very useful.
Make sure you sign up today, I try and change these resources on a regular basis, and if you come back later, they may be gone. Or start at my blog for career articles.
Whatever you decide, just choose the best route for you today. I want to help you, and I’ll be here when you are finally ready to kick ass with your career.
Ahh…skeptical, this is a good thing (sometimes.)
Well it seems crazy that this is my 11th year assisting people to whip their career into shape. Yes I use coaching skills in all my work and no I'm not exactly a 'type'. Yes, my expereince is real and I have worked with people from all walks of life, each with a unique story - and even more important than that - I'm a human being with a career story to tell also!
If you want to know if I will be a person you can relate to, please read my non- professional bio page!
If you are ready to move on…I know you will find something of benefit here today…please don't leave empty handed.
Love and best wishes
Dawn Barclay
